Junior Unit Extreme Weather Policy

1) PURPOSE
Ensure and maintain the safety and enjoyment of Waverley Hockey Club members, parents, friends, coaches, managers and associated parties during training and games

2) DEFINITIONS
‘Scheduled Activity’ A game or training organised by an appropriate Waverley Junior coach/es for the Waverley members taking part in Waverley’s Hookin2Hockey or the Waverley Panther program.

‘Scheduled Trainings’ – A training organized by an appropriate Waverley Junior coach/es for the Waverley members selected for teams in the Under 10 half field, Under 12, Under 14 and Under 16 competitions.

‘Carer’ – The parent, guardian, family member or friend who is responsible for the player during the period immediately before, during and after the player is at a Waverley Hockey Ground, or a ground hired by Waverley Hockey Club.
‘Severe Weather’ – An active thunderstorm, electrical storm, hailstorm, or some other weather event that could reasonably threaten damage to person or property.

3) UNDER 10, UNDER 12, UNDER 14 AND UNDER 16
Sections 4 concerns only Scheduled Trainings for Waverley Under 10 half field, Under 12, Under 14 and Under 16 competition players. Section 4 does NOT apply to Hockey Victoria Scheduled Games.

4) A Scheduled Training will not commence if there is severe weather in the vicinity of the playing ground immediately before a session. A Scheduled Training will cease immediately if there is severe weather in the vicinity of the ground during a session.

(a) In the event of severe weather in the vicinity of the ground before or during a Scheduled Training, the coaches, parents and players must take shelter immediately.
(b) In no circumstance should players, coaches or parents be in the open during severe weather.
(c) If the storm continues for 20 minutes or more during a Scheduled Training, then the Training will be cancelled for that evening.

5) HOOKIN2HOCKEY AND WAVERLEY PANTHERS
Section 6 concerns only Hookin2Hockey / Waverley Panthers games and trainings (referred to as Scheduled Activities) run by Waverley Hockey Club. Sections 6 does not apply to Hockey Victoria Scheduled Games.
