Junior season thus far
We are two rounds into the junior season now. Much work has been done behind the scenes to get the season started. Thanks to all junior committee members, age group co-ordinators, team managers and coaches for your amazing work.
Round one saw maybe one of the most successful junior rounds in club history. Only one of our 15 teams lost their first match. And it was against another Waverley team! Fingers crossed we can replicate this every round…..
Under 21’s and Under 15’s Nationals report
The under 21 nationals were held in Sydney recently. After a disappointing quarter final loss our girls won their next two games to finish in fifth place. The boys had a good tournament but ended up fourth after nail biting losses in the SF and bronze medal match.
The under 15 national nationals were held in Darwin recently. Both state teams played off for gold medals which was a fantastic effort. They were beaten in the final by strong Queensland teams so came home with a Silver medal. Giselle Thompson, Aaliayah Koelmeyer, Peyton Hodder, Sam Moore, Callan Wallace, Jack Brennan and Finn Watson all played off in the gold medal games and performed very well.
Volunteering is the life blood of sporting clubs
We know that people are very busy but for our club to function we all need to chip in and help. Our club is full of people donating their time to make sure your kids can get out there and play hockey. From time to time our juniors are required to help with ball patrol for Premier League games. This will only be a couples of times a season at most. For home junior games we need parents to chip in with canteen, bar or BBQ duty. It is rostered so you can watch the second half of your child’s game. Again, this is not very often but we need to all chip in to keep the club going. Please work with your team managers to help us to make this work.
