There was some huge news in mid-February with Dr Katie Allen committing to building Waverley HC a second hockey pitch if the Liberal party are elected at the upcoming federal election! It was also great to welcome back a junior Panther and Olympic gold medallist Dani Roche. We are very grateful for Katie’s support and keen interest in our club.
The club are in ongoing discussions with the ALP and are hopeful they will also support our second pitch project.
Here’s what Katie had to say about the announcement:
For nearly twenty years the Waverley Panthers Hockey Club has been fighting for a second pitch. I have listened, and if elected as part of a Coalition Government, I will deliver a second pitch.A Dutton led Coalition Government $2.5 million will be invested to construct a second hockey pitch and upgrade the Victorian Sikh Association’s Pavillion at Ashwood Reserve. My commitment will help ensure that our local juniors play locally, that our female athletes don’t miss out on the same training opportunities as the men and that all those who want to participate in our community can.Supporting our clubs helps build a happy and safe community.Thank you to the club president Nikki for welcoming me back to the club tonight and to the inspiring Danielle Roche OAM, Hockeyroos Gold Medalist at Atlanta ‘96 and Waverley Panthers Junior Star.
