Waverley went PINK!!

By May 14, 2023May 19th, 2023Club

The 2023 Women’s Round was celebrated across three match days over the Mother’s Day weekend, with a focus on both, ensuring ensure people of all genders are treated with respect and have equal opportunities within our community, and raising funds to further Breast Cancer Network Australia’s amazing work.

Our celebrations kicked off with Waverley HC representatives joining the Hockey Victoria Women & Girls breakfast ‘Celebrating First Nations Women in Sport’. What a fabulous morning of inspiring speeches and a real buzz across the packed room at Leonda. We even managed for one of the Waverley HC attendees to win one of the raffle prizes!!

Friday night and Saturday morning saw our U12, U14 and U16 boys and girls shield teams play with a short presentation at the end of each game reflecting on what Women’s Round represents and best player medals being awarded to each team.

The club was awash with pink across the weekend with Breast Cancer Network Australia pink ladies everywhere and lots of pink caps, beanies and socks being worn. The fantastic lolly bags sold out Saturday and the Cheesecake shop cupcakes were so yummy no one could resist!!!

We raised lots of money for the Breast Cancer Network Australia through gold coin donations, raffle tickets (the wonderful prize went to a Waverley HC mum – what a great outcome!), lolly bags and cup cakes. A massive thank you to Jo Hanlon and Kirstin Hine who organised the whole weekend and to the many people who helped them.

The weekend finished with our Premier League & Reserves home games vs Mentone, with all four teams looking quite “bright” in pink socks standing out on the blue pitch and a short presentation at the end of each game reflecting on what Women’s Round represents and best player medals being awarded to each team.
