WHC INCLUSION STATEMENT

Social inclusion is about making sure everyone is able to participate as valued, respected and contributing members of society. It is also about the acceptance and equal treatment of members of the wider community regardless of their gender, gender identity, sexuality, age, disability, religious or cultural background, or other attributes that may lead to people feeling excluded or isolated.

INCLUSION POLICY

As an affiliate Waverley Hockey Club follows Hockey Victoria’s (HV) inclusion policy.  This policy provides Hockey Victoria’s (HV) and Waverley Hockey Club’s position on the inclusion of all people.  This policy can be found on the HV website here: https://www.hockeyvictoria.org.au/info-hub/policies/

Waverley Hockey Club is committed to embracing diversity and eliminating all forms of discrimination, especially in the sporting arena. Waverley Hockey Club welcomes all people irrespective of ethnicity, lifestyle choice, faith, sexual orientation and gender identity.

Waverley Hockey Club acknowledges the Traditional Owners of our land, the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nation, their diversity, histories and knowledge and their continuing connections to land and community. We pay our respects to all Australian Indigenous Peoples and their cultures, and to past, present, emerging and future Elders.

In 2022 Waverley Hockey Club’s Indigenous Round included the creation of a piece of artwork to celebrate Indigenous cultures. Below is the artwork which was used to create a playing top worn by Premier League and Premier League Reserve players.

“This artwork celebrates the Waverley Hockey Club, their traditions and many cultures. A number of ‘people symbols’ are depicted honouring each individual’s journey that has ultimately lead them towards the meeting place within the centre, representing the Club. The varied shades are a tribute to the diversity within the club and beyond”
