Our second annual Indigenous Round was held 18-20 August. As a Club we took the opportunity to acknowledge the Wurundjeri people and their land on which we train and play.
On Saturday 19 August we had Premier League / Reserves home games vs Hawthorn who joined us to acknowledge our heritage. Off the field we were honoured to have Uncle Bill share with us his Welcome to Country Smoking Ceremony. As we reflected upon our heritage Uncle Bill also challenged us all to be leaders, proud of who we are and what we believe in. Stand up he said, and share who you are and what you believe in. Thank you to our amazing Indigenous Round committee for a wonderful day and to Hawthorn Hockey Club for sharing the day with us.
On the field we proudly wore our Indigenous playing uniform designed by contemporary Indigenous artist, Kamilya Lowana and we were joined by our opposition Hawthorn Hockey Club who also proudly wore their Indigenous playing uniform. Check out how great the teams looked!
All Premier League, Reserves and Shield teams across the Round awarded Indigenous Round medals to the best player in each team. Congratulations to all the Indigenous Round medallists.
