The annual Bert Batch Cup was held at home this year, with Waverley and Camberwell vying for the prestigious cup in memory of Bert Batch. The cup honors his significant contributions to both the Waverley Hockey Club and Hockey Victoria, where he was granted Life Membership in 1982 and 1984, respectively.
This year, Camberwell emerged victorious in the Bert Batch Cup. The trophy was presented by Rachel Rowe (nee Rowland) and Stephen Batch, under the supervision of Lorraine Rowland and their families. It was heartening to witness junior players from WHC escorting the Premier League players onto the field and receiving their Bendigo Bank caps. These traditions highlight the enduring spirit of the Waverley hockey community.
We extend our gratitude to Bendigo Bank, our valued sponsor, for their steadfast support of community sports.
The Panther Pride Luncheon provided a wonderful opportunity for past players, supporters, officials, and family members to reconnect and reminisce about their days at the club. There was great laughter as old uniform was worn and members reflected on the role the hockey club played in their development.
